The American Consulate in Hamburg happens to sit right on one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the city. That route runs alongside the Alster River right into the heart of the city. It was used a lot by Commuters in the morning and in the evening since it is one of four routes leading downtown.

Then 911 came along and the road was closed – like in many cities worldwide - to improve the security for the consulate. Even though that meant closing one of four lifelines leading into the city most commuters accepted that for the sake of safety.  Read more »

It was one of those long Saturday afternoons in winter. The TV was showing some crap that was being interrupted by some other crap and the sun was so low on the horizon that it touched some corners near the living room ceiling that don't usually see the light of day.  Read more »
