Supplanting the United States Constitution: War, National Emergency and "Continuity of Government" .

Constitution.jpg

In July 1987, during the Iran-Contra Hearings grilling of Oliver North, the American public got a glimpse of "highly sensitive" emergency planning North had been involved in.

Ostensibly these were emergency plans to suspend the American constitution in the event of a nuclear attack (a legitimate concern). But press accounts alleged that the planning was for a more generalized suspension of the constitution.  Read more »

It’s Called ‘War Porn’.

War Porn.jpg

War has always been a turn-on, its thrill as old as mankind itself. It is intense; it is raw; it is primal.

It reaches into every nerve, so carnal it borders on the sexually erotic. And many who cannot participate want to watch. They want to watch a war porn.[1]  Read more »

Copy Machines, a Security Risk?

Weird. I can can see the reason why a copy machine is keeping a copy of the current document for multiple copies, but keeping tens of thousands of previous documents on a hard drive?

Knowledge, Truth and Human Action: America hits the Wall.

John Kozy.jpg

Americans have a problem with the truth. They seem to be unable to accept it, which is difficult to understand at a time in history when knowledge plays a larger and larger role in determining human action.

Recognition of this problem is widespread. Beliefs and lies somehow always overwhelm truth, even when they are so contradictory that any effective action becomes impossible. A kind of national, psychological paralysis occurs. Nothing can be done because one belief contradicts another, and for some unknown reason, the facts don't matter. Even during those times when an overwhelming belief does compel action, Americans rush headlong into it neglecting the adage that headlong often means wrong.  Read more »

The new formula for the Middle East - the Turkey-Iran-Syria triangle.jpg

The failure to reshape the Greater Middle East has left the field open to a new alliance, the Tehran-Damascus-Ankara triangle. Since nature is allergic to vacuums, Moscow is filling the space left vacant by Washington.

The wind has changed and it’s blowing strong. In a matter of a few months, the entire regional balance of power has tipped.  Read more »

From two States to one.

Israel.gif

Last week in Tel Aviv, a judge imposed a $25,000 fine on three tenants who extended their balcony illegally by annexing 23 sq. meters (250 sq. ft.). Well, that’s not really a scoop. Illegal construction is a punishable offense everywhere, even if there are no immediate victims like in this case. Israel is a law-and-order state; you can’t just take an area and keep it.  Read more »

Top Ten Reasons you should quit Facebook.

Facebook privacy policies keep going down the drain.jpg

After some reflection, I've decided to delete my account on Facebook. I'd like to encourage you to do the same. This is part altruism and part selfish. The altruism part is that I think Facebook, as a company, is unethical.

The selfish part is that I'd like my own social network to migrate away from Facebook so that I'm not missing anything. In any event, here's my "Top Ten" reasons for why you should join me and many others and delete your account.  Read more »

Obama takes direct aim at Anti-Government rhetoric.

Barak Obama.jpg

In a blunt caution to political friend and foe, President Barack Obama said Saturday that partisan rants and name-calling under the guise of legitimate discourse pose a serious danger to America's democracy, and may incite "extreme elements" to violence.

The comments, in a graduation speech at the University of Michigan's huge football stadium, were Obama's most direct take about the angry politics that have engulfed his young presidency after long clashes over health care, taxes and the role of government.  Read more »
